From the buzz of Tokyo to the temples of Kyoto and the food, culture, and quiet corners in between, your first Japan360 trip is built around you and handled from start to finish.
This is Japan, your way.

Why Japan for your first trip
Japan is one of the most rewarding places in the world to visit for the first time. It is safe, clean, endlessly fascinating, and full of contrast, from neon cities to ancient shrines, world-class food to peaceful gardens.

It can also feel daunting to plan: the language, the train system, knowing where to go and how long to spend. That is exactly where we come in. We take care of the planning so your first trip feels exciting rather than overwhelming.
Places we build first trips around
For a first visit, we usually combine a few key regions so you get a real feel for the country. We match the mix to your interests.
Tokyo
Japan's electric capital, where tradition and the future sit side by side. The perfect introduction.

Kyoto and Nara
Ancient temples, golden pavilions, geisha districts, and gardens. The cultural heart of Japan.

Hakone and Mount Fuji
Hot springs, lake views, and Japan's most famous mountain, an easy and beautiful add-on.

Osaka
Japan's friendliest food city, full of energy, street eats, and nightlife.

Hiroshima and Miyajima
Moving history and one of Japan's most beautiful island shrines.

Variations on a first trip
Have more time? Add Hiroshima and Miyajima, or a few days in the countryside. Travelling with kids, as a couple, or with friends? We shape the pace and the mix to suit. Want to time it for cherry blossom or autumn colour? We will plan around the season.

Best time for a first trip to Japan
Japan is wonderful year round. Spring brings cherry blossom, autumn brings spectacular colour, winter offers snow and fewer crowds, and summer is lively with festivals. Each season has its own appeal, and we help you choose the timing that fits your plans and what you most want to see.
Why Japan360, Meet Chika
My name is Chika Fisk. I was born and raised in Japan, and I now live in New Zealand where I married a New Zealander and raised our three children.
Before founding Japan360, I worked for a major travel agency in Japan, and then for a Japanese study abroad agency where I travelled with students to Australia and New Zealand. That background, combined with years of living in both countries, is what makes Japan360 different from any other Japan holiday specialist in NZ.

I understand Japan from the inside: the language, the culture, the relationships you need to make things happen on the ground. And I understand New Zealand travellers, because I am part of this community. When I build your Japan holiday package, I am not working from a template. I am creating something I would be genuinely proud to put my own family through, and that standard is what every Japan360 trip is held to.

First Time Japan Trip FAQ
How many days do I need for a first trip to Japan?
Ten to fourteen days is ideal for a first visit, enough to see Tokyo, Kyoto, and a region or two without rushing. Shorter trips work too, and we will help you make the most of the time you have.
Is Japan easy to travel as a first-timer?
It is one of the easiest countries to travel in once you have a good plan. It is safe, clean, and efficient. The trick is knowing where to go and how to get around, which is exactly what we sort out for you.
Do I need to speak Japanese?
No. You can have a wonderful trip without any Japanese. English signage is common in tourist areas, and we give you the tips and tools to get around with confidence.
How much does a first trip to Japan cost?
It depends on your travel style, the time of year, and how long you go for. At your free consultation we will give you a clear, honest sense of what your trip is likely to cost before you commit to anything.
What is the best time of year to visit?
Spring and autumn are the most popular for their cherry blossom and colour, but every season has its charm. We will recommend timing based on what you want to see and do.
Do you arrange flights?
We design your trip land-only, so you arrange your international flights separately. This keeps your trip flexible and often better value, and we are happy to advise on timing and airports.
What if I have never travelled somewhere so different before?
That is exactly who we love to help. We plan everything in detail and are on hand throughout, so even a very different destination feels easy and welcoming.
