Japan School Tour NZ
Planning a school trip to Japan is a significant undertaking, and the difference between a good tour and an exceptional one often comes down to who is organising it. Japan360 specialises in custom Japan school tours from New Zealand, led by Chika, a Japanese-born travel specialist based in NZ who has been planning and personally accompanying student groups to Japan for New Zealand schools. We understand the language, the culture, the logistics, and the small details that make a school group trip run smoothly, because we have lived on both sides of it.

Types of School Tours We Organise
Sports Tours
Japan has a strong culture of school sports, making it an ideal destination for NZ student groups looking for competitive fixtures alongside genuine cultural connection. We have organised Japan school tours for rugby teams with full match programmes against Japanese high school sides, and can build similar student group travel programmes for other codes and team sports.
Cultural Exchange Tours
Designed for schools looking to give students a fully customised Japan tour experience, connecting with Japanese students, exploring historic and modern Japan, and developing an understanding of Japanese society that goes well beyond a standard tourist visit. Every cultural exchange tour is tailor-made around your school's specific goals and year group.
Language and Study Tours
For schools with Japanese language programmes, we can build tours that reinforce classroom learning with real-world experience, guided by someone who speaks the language fluently and understands the cultural context behind it.
Ski and Snow Tours
Japan's ski fields are world-class and a genuine drawcard for NZ school groups. We can organise Japan ski trips from New Zealand in Hokkaido or Nagano combined with cultural activities, making for a genuinely memorable winter school tour that combines sport, adventure, and cultural experience.

Our Latest School Tour
Macleans College 1st XV Rugby Tour 2025
We created this tour for the Macleans College 1st XV with great care and a genuine desire to make their time in Japan both exciting and meaningful. More than just a school trip, we wanted it to be an experience that brought the team closer together through shared moments, new discoveries, and memories that would last well beyond the final whistle.
The tour covered six cities by Shinkansen, Tokyo, Hiroshima, Onomichi, Osaka, Kyoto, and Nagoya, with friendly matches played against three Japanese high schools, including an exchange programme that we hope will continue for years to come.
Highlights included Tokyo DisneySea, teamLab, Hiroshima's Miyajima Island and the Atomic Bomb Museum, Osaka Castle, Kyoto, Fuji-Q Highland, and Nagashima Jumbo Pool. Private coach transfers, local train experiences, arranged dinners, and a few surprises along the way kept the energy high from day one to the last night in Shinjuku.

Why Japan360,
Meet Chika
My name is Chika Fisk. I was born and raised in Japan, and now live in New Zealand where I married a New Zealander and raised our three children.
Before founding Japan360, I worked for a major travel agency in Japan, and then for a Japanese study abroad agency where I travelled with students to Australia and New Zealand. That background, combined with years of living in both countries, is what makes Japan360 different from any other school tour provider in NZ.
I understand Japan from the inside: the language, the culture, the etiquette, and the relationships you need to make things happen on the ground. And I understand New Zealand schools, parents, and students, because I am part of this community too.
When I plan a school tour, I am not working from a brochure. I communicate directly with Japanese schools, coaches, and local partners in their language, build real relationships before your group arrives, and travel with your students throughout the trip. Every detail is something I would be comfortable putting my own children through, and I say that because I have. I have organised trips for my own children's school here in New Zealand, so I understand exactly what teachers, parents, and students need from an experience like this.

We plan. We coordinate. We escort.
What makes Japan360 different from other school tour providers?
Japan360 is a Japanese-led school tour specialist focused on Japan. We understand the language, culture, and on-the-ground details that make a school trip more meaningful and more practical. We also work directly with suppliers and partners in Japan wherever possible, which helps reduce unnecessary middleman costs and allows us to create programmes with better value for each school. Our approach is simple: we plan carefully, we coordinate properly, and we travel with your group.
What kind of school tours do you offer?
We create custom Japan school tours from New Zealand based on each school's goals, budget, and interests. This can include Japanese language and cultural programmes, sports-focused tours, school visits and exchange opportunities, and sightseeing and educational experiences. We believe the best school tours are not one-size-fits-all. They should reflect the group's purpose and deliver real value.
How does the planning process work?
We begin with a consultation to understand your school, your travel goals, your preferred dates, and your budget. Once the direction of the tour is agreed, a non-refundable booking deposit is required to confirm the school's commitment and allow us to move into the detailed planning and coordination stage. From there, we begin itinerary development, supplier coordination, and programme design to build the right tour for your group. You can read more about how we work on our How It Works page.
Can you communicate directly with schools and partners in Japan before departure?
Yes. This is one of our key strengths. Where relevant, we can communicate directly with Japanese schools, principals, coaches, managers, and other local partners before departure. This helps build stronger relationships in advance and makes the experience feel more purposeful, personal, and connected from the beginning. For language and sports tours especially, this direct communication can make a real difference.
What services do you provide for school tours?
Japan360 provides the Japan land programme for school groups, designed around each school's goals, budget, and travel style. Our services can include itinerary planning, accommodation, transport within Japan, cultural activities, language-focused experiences, sports-related programmes, and on-the-ground coordination. A Japanese-speaking tour leader and interpreter is included in the tour cost from beginning to end, supporting the group throughout the trip.
Do you arrange international flights?
International flights are arranged separately through the school's preferred flight provider or travel agent. Japan360 specialises in land operations in Japan, with a focus on designing and managing the in-country experience. This includes itinerary planning, accommodation, transport, activities, school connections, and on-the-ground support.
Do you work directly with suppliers in Japan?
Yes. We work directly with suppliers in Japan to help reduce unnecessary middleman costs and create better value for schools. Direct relationships also allow us to design programmes more carefully, with options that better match the school's goals, group needs, and budget. For us, value is not about offering the cheapest trip — it is about creating the right trip at the right level, with more meaning and less unnecessary cost.
What is the payment plan?
School payments are handled through a secure online payment platform with a clear staged payment process. Payments are usually made in stages: a non-refundable booking deposit at confirmation, a second payment 90 days before departure, and the final balance 45 days before departure. Exact payment dates and terms are confirmed in writing before the programme is finalised.
Is the deposit refundable?
No. The booking deposit is non-refundable. It confirms the school's commitment to proceed and allows us to begin the detailed planning, coordination, and supplier arrangements required for the tour.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
The initial booking deposit is non-refundable. If a tour is cancelled more than 90 days before departure, only the deposit is retained. If cancellation takes place between 90 and 46 days before departure, 30% of the total trip cost is non-refundable. If cancellation takes place 45 days or less before departure, 100% of the total trip cost is non-refundable, subject to group commitments and supplier terms. Full cancellation terms will be confirmed in writing before the programme is finalised.
Can the tour price change?
Tour pricing is based on the itinerary, travel dates, group size, and supplier costs at the time of quotation and confirmation. Once group numbers and core arrangements are confirmed, pricing becomes much clearer. However, the final cost may change if there are changes to student numbers, travel dates, itinerary requests, or supplier pricing before bookings are fully secured. We will always communicate any changes clearly before moving ahead.
How will the school and parents be kept updated?
Once the tour is fully confirmed, we provide a digital itinerary with mobile app access so the latest information can be shared clearly in one place. This allows the school, trip leaders, and where appropriate, parents, to stay updated with schedules, meeting points, key arrangements, and important changes before and during the tour.
Do students need travel insurance?
Yes. All students must have travel insurance before departure.
